The key research activities at the Department of Biochemistry is concentrated in key directions dealing with protein biochemistry and engineering, studies on biological activities of glycoproteins and glycolipids, computer modeling of biochemical interactions, detailed investigations of the molecular mechanisms of antitumor drug action and development, enzymology of hemoproteins (cytochromes P450 and peroxidases) pertinent to drug metabolism and studies on proteases of human pathogens. The scientific endeavor is concentrated mainly into the research groups of Prof. Petr Hodek, Prof. Helena Ryšlavá, Prof. Jan Konvalinka, Assoc. Prof. Miroslav Šulc, Assoc. Prof. Olga Heidingsfeld, and Dr. Radek Indra.
