Welcome to the new website
of the Faculty of Science!

After several months of preparation, the Faculty of Science of Charles University launched a new web portal to replace the existing website. The new website went live on 1 September and covers information on key agendas to the maximum extent possible. During September, before the start of the academic year, further fine-tuning of functionality and content will take place. According to the current plan, the website will be in the editing and debugging mode by the end of the calendar year.

Cooperation is essential to today´s scientific world. The group of Modelling of (nano)materials led by Assoc. Prof. Lukáš Grajciar, and Dr. Christopher J. Heard is proving it right now. They were awarded the MIT Global Seed Fund, which supports the mobility of researchers and students between Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and other universities in the world.

New data-driven map reveals extensive peatlands in Amazon Basin

A consortium of researchers led by the University of St Andrews, Scotland, and Charles University, Prague have developed a new data-driven map which predicts substantially more peatland area in the Amazon basin than previously estimated. The high-resolution map provides the first field-data-driven extent of peatlands in the Amazon basin and will be useful for future research and policy on the vulnerability of peatlands to climate change and human impacts.

New study reveals role of cell surface sugars in neuronal navigation

An international team of scientists from the Faculty of Science at Charles University, the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and Stanford University has uncovered the molecular mechanisms by which cell surface sugars influence the navigation of neurons in the nervous system. Their results were published in the prestigious journal PNAS.

22nd International Summer School on Bioanalysis

From July 8 to July 12, 2024, the 22nd annual International Summer School on Bioanalysis took place at the Faculty of Science of Charles University, under the patronage of Dean Professor Zima. The event, organized by a team of teachers and doctoral students from the Department of Analytical Chemistry and the Department of Physical and Macromolecular Chemistry, was attended by 82 representatives from a total of 19 universities.

The book Geoenvironmental Changes in the Cordillera Blanca, Peru has just been published by Springer. The book was edited by Vít Vilímek, Bryan G. Mark and Adam Emmer and a collective of 30 authors from Czechia, USA, Canada, Peru, Austria, Switzerland, UK and France contributed to the book.
