Detailed description of the programme

What I will learn

The Science Undergraduate Programme is based on the 2 + 1 principle. The first two years of the programme, all students follow the same curriculum and the third year is fully dedicated to one of the three specializations selected by the student (biology, chemistry or physics).

The first two years, the students gain a strong knowledge in mathematics, computer science, programming, and soft skills. These courses account for approximately one third of the credits total. The remaining credits are evenly distributed between biology, chemistry, and physics. In the final year, the students select their specialization and deepen their knowledge within the specific field of study.  The absolvents can smoothly continue in one of the related master's programmes.

The study consists of lectures and laboratory exercises taking place in well-equipped laboratories of biological and chemical departments at the Faculty of Science and physical departments at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics.

Study plans (list of lectures) for individual study programmes can be found here.

Further application

The graduates will find job opportunities in interdisciplinary fields requiring a strong background in biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics and in emerging areas, such as environmental, social, technological-economical sustainability. Graduates will also be highly employable in the commercial sector, including corporate research and development, consulting, and risk analysis. As the Science Programme is in English only, the graduates will also gain both advanced language proficiency and ability to work effectively in international professional environments.

Opportunities for further studies

The graduates of the Science Programme are well prepared to pursue master’s degrees in biology, chemistry, physics or related interdisciplinary fields at both Czech universities and universities abroad.

Study background

The teaching of this study programme, similarly to other chemistry programmes, takes place in the form of lectures and laboratory exercises. The students take these in the recently renovated and modernly equipped laboratories of the Faculty's Institute of Chemistry, Biology and MFF whose standard corresponds to world university departments with a chemical focus, including, for example, the nuclear magnetic resonance laboratory or the X-ray structural analysis department. In addition to lecture halls, seminar rooms and laboratories, the Chemistry Department building also houses the Chladič student club and a fast food bistro.

Admissions examination

The regular date of the entrance examination is for Science programme 20. - 24. 4. 2026, the alternative date is 6. 5. 2026. An entrance examination on an alternative date may be authorised by the Dean on the basis of a written request.

The entrance exam is a one-round online interview in biology, chemistry, physics. The entrance exam is conducted in English. Students will be assessed on their high school knowledge of biology, chemistry and physics and their ability to integrate and apply this knowledge. The content of the exam in biology, chemistry and physics is based primarily on current textbooks for secondary schools. Some of the questions may go beyond the high school curriculum in terms of their content and subject matter - they test the candidates' interest in the subject, their ability to think logically and solve problems based on the correct interpretation of the input information provided.

For more information on the form and topics of the entrance examinations, please see the admission requirements.

Options for waiving the entrance exam

In order to waive the entrance exam, you must meet the criterion set for the study programme. Detailed information, i.e. the list of criteria to be taken into account and their relevance to each programme, the requirements for evidence of fulfilment of the criterion and the application form, are given in the admission requirements.

Applicants with specific needs

If you have a medical disability, you can apply for a modification of the entrance exam. Further information can be found in the admission requirements.

Enrollment and Orientation week camp

The Orientation week camp has been designed for the newly accepted students of the Science Programme. The purpose of this three-day camp is to introduce the students to the Programme organisation, study rules and regulations and to the Student Information System (SIS). Last but not least, the students will meet their Programme supervisors and fellow students.

The official enrolment takes place during the Orientation week camp.

Dates of enrollment and initial camps can be found from the admission decision or here.
