Department of Physical and Macromolecular Chemistry
The Department was founded by Nobel Prize laureate Professor Jaroslav Heyrovský in 1921. Since then, the Department has developed into an important centre of diverse research areas in physical chemistry.
Currently, the department focuses on experimental and theoretical physical chemistry, chemical physics, biophysical chemistry, and macromolecular chemistry. Our research groups focus on topics such as biophysical chemistry of protein complexes, electrophoresis and chromatography, heterogeneous catalysis and advanced materials, modelling of (nano)materials, polymer synthesis and biomaterials, soft matter, soft matter theory, and porous polymers.
The Department offers Master's programmes in Physical Chemistry (specializations in Biophysical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and Modelling of chemical Properties and nano/biostructures) and Macromolecular Chemistry. And Doctoral Programmes in Physical Chemistry, Macromolecular Chemistry and Modelling of Chemical Properties of Nano- and Biomolecules.
