The tradition of the Geography at Charles University has been going on since 1856, when the first associate professor of this field was appointed.
Geography, with its focus on the spatial interactions of society and the environment, is significantly involved in the key research issues of our time, such as monitoring the effects of global climate change, population ageing and sustainable development of society in diverse locations and regions, using the new technical possibilities of remote sensing and geo-information systems.
