From March 31 to June 6, 2025, the Department of Social Geography and Regional Development will host the 29th annual edition of the so-called American Term – a collaborative program between the Faculty of Science at Charles University and one of the most prestigious American universities, Dartmouth College (New Hampshire, USA). This year, 15 students have arrived under the guidance of Professor Christopher S. Sneddon and Professor Mona Domosh.
The main goal of the program, hosted by the Department of Social Geography and Regional Development and the Geography Section, is to provide American students with a comprehensive overview of the geography of Czechia in the broader context of European development, particularly that of Central and Eastern Europe. Through a series of lecture blocks supplemented by thematically related excursions, students are gradually introduced to all the key aspects of spatial and social development in Czechia, especially in recent decades.
This international collaboration with a prestigious American university also brings valuable professional and personal enrichment to the Czech side – not only for the faculty members but also for bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral students of the Geography Section at the Faculty of Science, Charles University, who are actively involved in organizing the program.
