Ticking Time Bombs in the Himalayas: Study by Charles University Researcher Featured in Over 30 Global Media Outlets

Glacier retreat in the Indian Himalayas is causing the rapid expansion of glacial lakes and creating dozens of new ones. Research by Dr. Aayushi Pandey from the Department of Physical Geography and Geoecology of the Faculty of Science, Charles University, combines 30 years of satellite data with field surveys at high-risk Lake Balbala. Warning of catastrophic floods, the study resonated across more than 30 global media outlets.

Czech National Parks Join Forces! A Team from the Faculty of Science to Provide Data

For the first time in history, all four Czech national parks have joined forces in a single major project. Thanks to Swiss support, they are launching the "Responsibly into Nature" (Zodpovědně do přírody) initiative for sustainable tourism and biodiversity protection. The protection of such complex yet sensitive ecosystems is impossible without detailed data analysis. Therefore, a key expert pillar of the project is the team of Dr. Dušan Romportl and Dr. Tomáš Janík from our Department of Physical Geography and Geoecology (together with colleagues from Palacký University Olomouc).
