A team of researchers coordinated by Eunice Romero, a researcher at the Faculty of Science, Charles University, published a study in the journal Frontiers in Plant Science. In this work they developed and clearly documented practical maceration protocols that can be widely used in research and teaching. Alongside Eunice Romero, the research involved Mark Olson and Alí Segovia-Rivas (UNAM, Mexico  –  Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México), Jarmila Pittermann (UC Santa Cruz, USA), and Radek Jupa (Masaryk University). 

A team of our students — Adéla Kohoutová, Vlaďka Maděrová, Anna Ho and Adéla Vlašicová (study programmes Global Migration and Development Studies, and Political and Regional Geography) — won second place at the World Evaluation Case Competition (WECC). They succeeded in competition with 17 teams from 14 countries and 5 continents. Congratulations!

The National List of the UNESCO Memory of the World Program has been extended by an important cartographic document, the Klaudyán Map of Bohemia, which is owned by the Diocese of Litoměřice. The map has been stored in the State Regional Archives in Litoměřice.

Climate change is extending the growing season in European forests, but this effect will not be sufficient to offset the negative impacts of increasing drought stress. This is a conclusion of an international research team led by Jan Tumajer from the Department of Physical Geography and Geoecology, Faculty of Science, Charles University, which analyzed more than 2,000 tree-ring width chronologies across Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe. The study, recently published in the prestigious journal Nature Communications, shows that while a longer growing season may promote tree growth until mid-century, the negative effects of summer drought will outweigh the benefits of the extended growing season in drier regions after the 2050s.
