For holders of health insurance valid in the Czech Republic, basic treatment is free of charge in medical facilities that are included in the public health insurance system. In private facilities, treatment is charged.

The holders of European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) have free or discounted health care in another EU or European Economic Area (EEA) state. Note that EHIC Card is not an alternative to travel insurance and does not cover all kinds of medical treatment (e.g. medically assisted transport home following serious illness or injury). For these eventualities, an extra travel insurance is recommended.

As it is stated at the University page for incoming Erasmus students, it is recommended to register your EHIC (EU/EFTA citizens) at any Czech insurance company after your arrival.  The VZP (Všeobecná zdravotní pojišťovna – General Health Insurance Company) is highly recommended. The nearest branch is at this address: Na Perštýně, Prague 1 (queuing system in operation: pick a number from the machine by the entrance – press the button: "individuální pojištěnci" (individual insurance). Required documents are your ID card/passport, and your EHIC card. A registration document with a registration number is issued for you on site – in case of treatment, take this document with you along with the EHIC card.

Non-EU/EFTA students have to arrange their own sufficient health insurance valid in the Czech Republic. The VZP is recommended.
