Šafařík’s maps inscribed in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register

Czech cultural heritage has achieved a significant international success with the inscription of the unique maps by Slavist Pavel Josef Šafařík into the UNESCO Memory of the World Register. UNESCO’s Secretariat received 122 nominations, of which only 74 were recommended for inscription. The Faculty of Science at Charles University can now proudly celebrate its second entry on this prestigious international list — the first being the successful nomination of the Camocio maps in 2017.

Student and Alumnus of our Faculty Succeed at Prestigious Czech Nature Photo 2025 Competition

Biology student Jakub Horák and Faculty of Science alumnus Vojtěch Schmidt achieved outstanding success in the 9th edition of the prestigious Czech Nature Photo competition. Jakub Horák won first place in the "Landscape" category, while Vojtěch Schmidt was named the overall winner with his Photograph of the Year.

During his lectures, he connects the world of inorganic chemistry with biology, art, geology, geography, and even the current political landscape. Above all, he teaches students to look at the world around them in a completely new way. In addition to inorganic chemistry, his main focus is on teaching experimental subjects (that is, how to properly conduct experiments in school) and creating teaching aids using 3D printing.
