The fund of the Map Collection is available to researchers in two modes. Physical viewing of documents is allowed to registered users in person in the reading room. Old prints can be borrowed for viewing only based on a certificate of necessity for using these materials for a specific author's work or qualifying university thesis. Viewing of digitized documents is allowed without restrictions in several digital libraries.


Opening hours for researchers

  • Tuesday: 9 am – 12 pm and 1 pm – 3.30 pm
  • Thursday: 9 am – 12 pm and 1 pm – 3.30 pm
  • Map Collection is closed during summer holidays (1st July – 31st August), Christmas holidays (19th December – 3rd January)  and public holidays (1st January, 1st May, 8th May, 28th September, 28th October and 17th November).

 How to register for the Map Collection?

If you are already registered at Charles University, continue to No. 4, if not, please start from No. 1.

  1. Get your Charles University Card (CU Card) in one of the Card Service Centres.
  2. Set up your login at CAS (Charles University Authentication Service, more information here).
  3. Fill in the library application form. Now you can use the services of all CU libraries!
  4. Make an appointment in Map Collection via e-mail mapcol@natur.cuni.cz.
  5. Fill in the research sheet (you will receive it at Map Collection).

Due to the limited capacity of study places, we ask you to arrange the visit date and specify the required documents in advance.


We also provide scanning on a flatbed scanner up to A3 format or on a pass-through scanner up to the width of B0 format.

Digitized maps are available to view and download here:

  2. Digital Map Collection – 100 DPI JPEG scans without watermark

To provide TIFF images in 400 DPI resolution, it is necessary to conclude a relevant contract with the Faculty of Science, Charles University.

  1. Non-exclusive license contract – natural person
  2. Non-exclusive license contract – legal person
  3. Cooperation contract – natural person
  4. Cooperation contract – legal person
  5. Data protection declaration – only for students and employees of the Faculty of Science, CHU

If you are interested in concluding a contract, please do not fill in the specified templates and contact the staff of the Map Collection.
