Excursion to the Reading Room and the Kuchař's Gallery of Cartography
The Kuchař's Gallery of Cartography presents a reproduction of the key works from the collection and also introduces the main European schools of cartography. Visitors will see the oldest maps of the Czech lands, globes from the workshop of Jan Felkl, maps by S. Münster, N. Claudianus, J. A. Comenius, P. J. Šafařík, J. B. Homann, H. Hondius, A. Ortelius, G. M. Seutter, P. Mortier, G. Delisle, and G. of Tilbury. Digital presentations offer a cross-section of Map Collection treasures, looks at the oldest digitized globes, and a video about the contest for georeferencing old maps.

Opening hours
- Every Wednesday, 9 am – 4 pm, last entry 3.30 pm, besides public, summer and Christmas holidays.
Admission
- The admission is always paid in cash before the start of the excursion.
- Groups are asked to make a one-time payment for all participants.

Capacity of excursions
- Groups of more than 5 persons must be pre-ordered via email mapcol@natur.cuni.cz in advance.
- One group can include up to 15 visitors, the higher number of persons has to be split into more groups. In that case, it is possible to view the exhibition in the vestibule while waiting, or to arrange a visit to another faculty collection or museum.
Guide commentary
- Individual excursions are without a guide. Texts about the history of the Map Collection and the Kuchař's Gallery of Cartography are available for visitors.
- Group excursions are with commentary in the Czech or English language.
- The excursion duration is 45–60 minutes (it can be shortened or extended). Interpretation of the guide is adapted to the needs and ages of the visitors.
Other important information and instructions
- We ask visitors to leave their outerwear and luggage in the lockers in the corridor in front of the Map Collection. Lockers are lockable against a refundable deposit of CZK 10.
- Shoe covers will be lent to participants when entering the reading room.
- Taking photos during excursions is not allowed, as well as consumption of food or beverages.
- We ask visitors not to touch the exhibited exhibits.
