Since December 2010, new email aliases have been activated for students and staff of the Faculty of Science, Charles University, allowing them to use an email account with a natural format firstname.lastname@natur.cuni.cz. The original email addresses remain functional, so users can be reached both at the new, easy-to-remember address and at their "traditional" email account. Both addresses are directed to the same mailbox, ensuring seamless operation without any additional user intervention.
For users with a unique combination of first name and last name within the faculty, an alias is automatically generated and activated in the format firstname.lastname@natur.cuni.cz. For users whose names are duplicated within the faculty, a web interface is available at http://alias.natur.cuni.cz where they can propose their own alias variant. This user-proposed variant is then subject to approval by an administrator.
