The ownCloud service is a cloud storage suitable for smaller amounts of data, accessible through a web browser (an academic alternative to Dropbox, Onedrive, etc.).
Web interface: https://owncloud.cesnet.cz.
- Allows automatic synchronization of data between your computers, mobile devices, or sharing with others.
- Data space of 100 GB.
- Free synchronization client for Linux/Windows/Mac OS + paid app (approx. 20 CZK) for mobile platforms Android, iOS, WindowsMobile (unofficial release).
- Ability to mount as a disk via WebDAV, for example in Windows using the command “net use r: https://owncloud.cesnet.cz/remote.php/webdav/ /user:cislo@cuni.cz”
Login to the ownCloud storage
- Since 07/2018, the login method to the CESNET e-infrastructure has changed (it used to directly use user identities from the federation).
- The login procedure is described in the guides at
https://du.cesnet.cz/en/navody/owncloud/start#first_logging_into_the_cesnet_e-infrastructure
Setting up the ownCloud desktop client
- The client registration is also changing; it will no longer use a special username and password but login via the web interface. Therefore, clients will need to be re-registered. The WebDAV protocol has specific passwords. Again, refer to the guides:
https://du.cesnet.cz/en/navody/owncloud/start#desktop_client
https://du.cesnet.cz/en/navody/owncloud/start#access_via_webdav_protocol - After starting the system, there was an issue with some mobile clients (Android, iOS), where registration to the user account failed. CESNET is actively working on resolving this, and we will be informed about the progress.
For more information and detailed help regarding the ownCloud service, check the guide on the service website.
