GeoArts is formed by bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD students from the Department of Applied Geoinformatics and Cartography, with the support of members of Copernicus Academy CZ. We welcome everyone who shares a passion for geo-disciplines and wants to engage in the student community – whether they are students, teachers, or alumni.

Geo – reflects our professional focus: geoinformatics, cartography, and remote sensing
Arts – symbolizes the skill and creativity involved in applying these fields in practice

What do we do?

Our activities include:

  • Trips and networking with other universities

  • Informal events: pub quizzes, sports tournaments, social meetups

  • Professional workshops and guest lectures

  • Promotion of geoinformatics and related disciplines

 

Trips and events

In March 2025, we organized our first nationwide GeoArts trip in Pec pod Sněžkou, where students from leading geographic universities across the Czech Republic came together. The program included expert talks (e.g., on our department’s projects in Ethiopia and planetary remote sensing), a social pub quiz, and a hike to the top of Sněžka.

 

High school workshops

We are also dedicated to education beyond the university. Our GIS and Remote Sensing workshops for high schools focus on:

  • Introduction to geographic information systems and remote sensing

  • Applications to real-world sustainability topics (e.g., water, vegetation, solar energy)

  • Working with digital tools and spatial data

The workshops are designed for high school students and take place across the Czech Republic. We also create freely accessible educational materials.

The project is funded by a sustainable development grant from Charles University.
