1. General - Everything at Charles University should, if possible, be under one domain, namely cuni.cz.

2. Individual parts of Charles University (faculties, RUK, other workplaces, special-purpose facilities, university institutes - see the structure of Charles University in the statute, which is mirrored by whois.cuni.cz) should have their own third-level domains neco.cuni.cz. In the case of the Faculty of Science, it is natur.cuni.cz.

3. Workplaces of faculties (departments, chairs) should be under the faculty's domain (department.faculty.cuni.cz), and they should not have third-level domains directly under cuni.cz or even second-level domains for their presentation. In the case of the Faculty of Science, it is pracoviste.natur.cuni.cz

Providing a third-level domain (neco.cuni.cz) for something other than a workplace presentation is generally acceptable, such as for
- joint workplaces of multiple faculties (centers) or Charles University and other organizations
- services (e.g. library.cuni.cz, ubytovani.cuni.cz, fyzweb.cuni.cz...)
- pages for conferences organized by Charles University

4. Second-level domains (neco.cz)

- only in exceptional cases
- presentation of an international project that a workplace is participating in, where a presentation on a separate domain is specified in the project description
- presentation of an international conference, organized by different parties every year, and now Charles University
- a joint workplace of Charles University and another organization
- for another organization than Charles University, if it can have a website within the Charles University network (e.g. gacr.cz, frvs.cz)

If such a case arises, then

- only after prior agreement with Ing. Horák from RUK - send an email request to vhor@cuni.cz, with a copy to sit@natur.cuni.cz

- the domain must be registered to the university and not to a private individual, so it is immediately clear that it is the university's activity. Ideally, contact Ing. Horák before registering the domain, so he can register the domain under his name - the same way as cuni.cz - i.e. the owner is Charles University, it is operated on the DNS servers of the IT Services of Charles University, and the registration fee is only internally re-invoiced to you.

SSL certificates for faculty websites hosted on the Faculty of Science servers

We provide SSL certificates through CESNET TCS, and they are issued by DigiCert. The certificate issuance is free of charge.

For an SSL certificate for faculty fourth-level domains (e.g. http://mojedomena.natur.cuni.cz), contact CIT at sit@natur.cuni.cz

For second-level domains (e.g. http://www.mojedomena.cz), the domain must be approved by IT Services of RUK (see previous point 4), and the domain owner must be Charles University, with the address Ovocný trh 5, Prague 1. The certificate cannot be issued for an owner "Faculty of Science, Charles University".
