David Hořák, Ph.D. – Associate professor and head of the team

David is an ecologist and ornithologist investigating how environmental heterogeneity influences biodiversity patterns. His work centers on the theoretical concept of ecological space and its relationship to physical space (Hutchinson duality). He began his academic journey in the wetlands of Třeboňsko and later expanded his research to the forests and savannas of Sub-Saharan Africa. Today, he leads the EcoSpace team, focusing mostly on avian and mammalian communities across wetland, aridity, and elevation gradients. He has a strong interest in the philosophical dimensions of ecology and values interdisciplinary collaboration.
