Study with us!
ÚPSG provides doctoral studies in the Geology study programme. Doctoral students select lectures and seminars into their study plans in accordance with their professional focus, in agreement with their supervisor and of their own choice with the approval of the study board from the list of lectures offered by the faculty, other faculties of Charles University, or other universities.
Doctoral studies at the Institute are primarily focused on independent scientific work and meet strict international criteria common at prestigious foreign universities. A number of topics are also offered under the highly competitive STARS programme. Dissertations are mostly in English, are reviewed by external referees and include original scientific articles published in reputable scientific journals. The standard period of study is 4 years, culminating in a state final examination and dissertation defence. The spectrum of research topics addressed in the PhD projects is very broad and includes both geological processes and geodynamics and applied geology. Our PhD students are heavily involved in research teams and grant projects and often also participate in teaching laboratory and practical courses and field trips.
