What IP address will my device receive?
You will receive a private IP address, which the faculty's firewall will translate to a public one. However, it will always be a different address! We do not consider assigning static IP addresses, and their configuration is detected and considered a violation of the rules.
I have very poor eduroam signal, can it be improved?
Yes, there are two options – try moving closer to a wireless access point, or send an email to sit@natur.cuni.cz requesting a signal boost in your faculty location.
Frequent disconnections/reconnections to the network
On older laptops with Windows, this may be caused by an old wireless card driver. Check the manufacturer's website for newer drivers for your model.
On laptops and mobile devices, this may be caused by the power-saving mode of the wireless adapter. In Windows, you can try disabling “Turn off this device to save power” in the wireless adapter driver options.
Another reason may be very aggressive roaming. Devices typically have multiple access points (APs) within range and choose the one with the strongest signal. The wireless adapter continuously monitors the signal strength. When changes occur in the environment (e.g., a person walks by), the signal strength from the access points changes, and the computer may try to switch to another access point. In Windows, you can adjust the roaming aggressiveness, see the article Setting Roam Aggression on Windows Computers.
Frequent disconnections may be caused by overheating of the laptop. If you have an older laptop and its bottom side gets hot during use, try cleaning it from dust. Most laptop service companies do this, but you can try it yourself.
