The group led by RNDr. Šárka Kaňková, Ph.D., primarily focuses on evolutionary psychology with an emphasis on reproduction. One of the main areas of research is the study of pregnancy from various interdisciplinary perspectives. The group is interested in hormonal, immunological, parasitological, behavioral, and psychological factors and their interactions. The goal is also to monitor the influence of these variables on the development and health of the child. Specific topics the team is working on include the study of the adaptive function of the behavioral immune system and its affective component, disgust, the influence of toxoplasmosis on reproduction, pregnancy-related nausea, and the associated changes in the composition of the gut microbiota in pregnant women.
