The library of the Department of Philosophy and History of Science was founded by Dr. Emanuel Rádl, who became the head of the Department for Methodology and History of Natural and Exact Sciences at Charles University. Since 1950, departments of Marxism-Leninism were established across the entire university, and since then, the library served exclusively for the teaching of Marxist philosophy. After the restoration of the Department of Philosophy and History of Natural Science under the leadership of Professor PhDr. RNDr. Zdeněk Neubauer in 1990, the library was reorganized to continue its renowned tradition.

The library contains approximately 10,000 volumes, predominantly focused on social sciences, and alongside the library at the Faculty of Arts at Charles University and the library of the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences, it is probably the most extensive library in Prague specializing in philosophical literature.

Additionally, in line with the department's profile, it includes numerous publications on general questions of science and the history of natural sciences. The library aims to acquire and offer all current Czech philosophical literature. Furthermore, it is also well-represented with Czech philosophical works from the First Republic period. For specialists, the library offers a wide range of foreign publications, primarily of German and Anglo-Saxon origin.

One of the advantages of the library is that it acquires essential philosophical literature in multiple copies, so as to adequately meet the needs of university students and faculty members.
