The Czech Science Foundation (GA CR) has announced its calls for proposals of projects in basic research with the start date in 2026. Deadline is 3. 4. 2024.

ATTENTION: the EARLIER INTERNAL DEADLINE for the Faculty of Science is 25. 3. 2025.

Note: GA CR does not plan to open a call for proposals of EXPRO projects in 2025. A call for EXPRO project proposals is planned to open in 2026.

Calls for the following types of projects are open:

  • Standard projects
    • These are the main tool of support of basic research in Czechia. There is no restriction regarding the length of the research career of the applicant (researcher – principal investigator).
    • Project duration is 2–3 years (usual duration is 3 years).
    • Project is carried out by a single investigator or by research team from one or more institutions.
    • Standard projects: Call announcement and documentation (in Czech).

  • Junior STAR projects
    • These should provide early career researchers with an opportunity to achieve scientific independence including a possibility to build their own research groups that would bring new topics to science in Czechia.
    • The project duration is 5 years.
    • Maximal grant amount is CZK 25 million for the whole duration of the project.
    • The principal investigator has to meet the condition that on 30 September of the year of the call, no more than 8 years have elapsed since obtaining their PhD.
    • The principal investigator must have significant international scientific experience.
    • Project is carried out by one investigator or by a team of investigators from one research organisation.

  • Postdoc Individual Fellowships – Incoming
    • These should enable researchers from abroad to start research career at a Czech research organisation, or Czech researchers to return to Czechia from abroad.
    • The project duration is 3 years at an institution in Czechia.
    • The principal investigator must have received their PhD no more than 4 years ago.
    • The principal investigator must have spent at least 2 of the last 3 years at an institution abroad (e.g., as a doctoral student or a member of research staff).
    • Postdoc Individual Fellowships – Incoming: Call announcement and documentation (in Czech).
    • Postdoc Individual Fellowships – Incoming – call documentation in English: Call document. Things to Watch For.
  • Postdoc Individual Fellowships – Outgoing
    • These should enable researchers currently in Czechia to go on a 2-year fellowship abroad, followed by a mandatory 1-year return phase in Czechia.
    • Project duration is 3 years, of which first 2 years take place at an institution abroad and the final year at an institution in Czechia.
    • The principal investigator must have received their PhD no more than 4 years ago.
    • The principal investigator must be currently active at an institution in Czechia.
    • Postdoc Individual Fellowships – Outgoing: Call announcement and documentation (in Czech).
    • Postdoc Individual Fellowships – Outgoing – call documentation in English: Call document. Things to Watch For.
  • Restart Grants
    • These should enable female and male scientists to restart their careers after a break due to parental leave or caring for a dependent person.
    • Project duration can be 2–4 years, depending on the selected workload of the principal investigator.
    • The principal investigator must have less than 2 years ago concluded a career break lasting 1–5 years and related to the care of a child or another dependent person.
    • Students and technical staff can participate in a project.

  • International projects
    • Projects carried out in collaboration with researchers from one of the partner countries.
    • Project duration is 2 or 3 years.
    • Bilateral international projects
    • International projects based on the “Lead Agency” principle, GA CR is the Lead Agency
      • Scientific evaluation of proposals is carried out by GA CR.

        • Germany – German Research Foundation (DFG)
        • Poland – National Science Centre (NCN)
        • Slovenia – Slovenian Research Agency (ARRS)
        • Switzerland – Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF)
        • Luxembourg – Nation Research Fund (FNR)
        • Croatia – Croatian Science Foundation (HRZZ)
    • International projects based on the “Lead Agency” principle, GA CR is just a partner, continuous calls
