CBE JU, bio-based innovative solutions: open international call

The European partnership Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) opened its 2025 call for proposals of international projects focused on bio-based innovative solutions and industrial systems. Deadline is 17. 9. 2025.
CBE JU is one of the Institutionalised European Partnerships of Horizon Europe.

The CBE JU projects usually have to be carried out by international consortia with significant participation of users of the potential project results. Formally, minimal requirement is participation of at least 3 legal entities from 3 different countries (EU member states or countries associated to Horizon Europe). In practice, the usual size of consortial is ca. 8–20 entities, depending on the nature of the topic.

The topics of the 2025 call include for example:

• HORIZON-JU-CBE-2025-IA-01:
  Sustainable macroalgae systems for innovative, added-value applications: cultivation and optimised production systems.
• HORIZON-JU-CBE-2025-IA-05:
  Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) bio-based polymers/copolymers unlocking new market applications.
• HORIZON-JU-CBE-2025-RIA-01:
  Valorisation of untapped forest biomass.
• HORIZON-JU-CBE-2025-RIA-02:
  Bio-based and biodegradable delivery systems for fertilising products to reduce microplastics pollution & promote soil health.
• HORIZON-JU-CBE-2025-CSA-01:
  Develop and deploy new curricula and knowledge exchange practices relevant to bio-based systems.
