Model organisms: Leishmania, phlebotomine sand flies, biting midges, laboratory rodents, wild rodents (Mus, Rattus, Apodemus, Myodes, Lagurus)
Methodological approaches: in vitro cultivation, experimental infection of insect vectors and rodents, tissue sampling, experimental transmission, field trapping, microscopy, molecular detection and quantification of Leishmania
