The Institute of Geology and Palaeontology, Charles University in Prague, is a modern university centre with a tradition of almost one hundred years in research and educational excellence in Earth Sciences. Our goal is the reconstruction of the evolution of life on planet Earth and understanding the global cycles and changes in the geological past. We also study the dynamics of geological processes on the Earth's surface and tectonic, magmatic and metamorphic processes in the Earth's crust. The Institute collaborates with a number of domestic and foreign research institutions, is involved in a number of international research projects, and regularly organises scientific expeditions to China, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Morocco, the Arctic, and North America. Last but not least, the Institute is in charge of unique collections of fossils, rocks and geological structures and manages the Chlupáč Museum of Earth History: a fascinating exhibition of the evolution of life on Earth which is also open to the general public.
