The 44th EARSeL Symposium took place on 26-29 May 2025, this year in Prague! Most of the remote sensing section of our department participated this event. We presented several talks, including one keynote, a poster, and we were in charge of a special session entitled "Nature conservation: multiscale remote sensing in nature conservation".

Dr. Lukáš Brodský during his keynote speech

The keynote lecture titled "Advancing Remote Sensing with Deep Learning: Challenges, Innovations, and Future Directions" by Dr. Lukáš Brodský focused on current challenges in applying deep learning in remote sensing, provided an overview of the latest methods and tools, and outlined future research directions. The presentation also addressed the impact of open datasets and models on accelerating development and collaboration in this field. The presentation is available on GitHub.

The TILSPEC research team presented several ongoing projects in the Krkonoše Mountains:

  • Mgr. Adam Kulich gave a talk on peat bog classification: „UAS Data and Machine Learning for Precise Monitoring of Peat Bog Vegetation: A Case Study of Kyselé Kouty (Krkonoše Mts.)“

Mgr. Adam Kulich during his presentation
  • Dr. Lucie Červená presented research on vegetation change monitoring: „Expansion or Error? Evaluating of Small Vegetation Changes in Krkonoše Mountains Based on UAS Data“.

Dr. Lucie Červená during her presentation
  • Poster by Mgr. Alex Šrollerů and Dr. Markéta Potůčková focused on using deep learning for detecting Veratrum album in the Orlické Mountains: Neural Network Training for Deep Learning Novices with no Intention of Scripting, Using a Consumer-grade Laptop“.
