On June 12, 2025, the 20th anniversary of the Field practices in human etology was celebrated in the amphitheatre on the Albertov steps. Teachers, former students, and also Romani residents from a village near the locality where the field course takes place gathered to celebrate this anniversary together.

A study by Filip Kolář from the Faculty of Science, Charles University, and Patrick Meirmans from the University of Amsterdam has just been published in the prestigious journal PNAS. The research shows that genome duplication significantly affects the ecological niche of plants—but in a difficult-to-predict way.

At the Faculty of Science, Charles University, a bee identification course is currently taking place as part of the European Pollinator Identification Courses (EPIC) project. The training is coordinated by Jakub Straka from the Department of Zoology. Its aim is to teach participants how to identify individual bee genera and species so that they can subsequently monitor the status (abundance and species diversity) of pollinators. The project is part of the EU's ambitious commitment to reverse pollinator decline by 2030.

A new book by Vojtěch Hladký from the Department of Philosophy and History of Science has just been published in the prestigious International Pre-Platonic Studies series. Titled Rejoicing Sphairos, Wandering Daimon, and Other Living Beings, the publication offers a set of interconnected studies focused on Empedocles’ natural philosophy and his understanding of life, death, and the cosmic cycle.

The teams of Prof. Tomáš Obšil from the Department of Physical and Macromolecular Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Charles University, Doc. Václav Veverka from the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the CAS and Dr. Veronika Obšilová from the Institute of Physiology of the CAS have elucidated the structural basis of the interaction of key transcription factors p53 and FOXO4. The study was published in the prestigious journal Nature Communications.

The team of Dr. Veronika Obšilová from the Institute of Physiology of the CAS and Prof. Tomáš Obšil from the Department of Physical and Macromolecular Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Charles University, has described the mechanism of regulation of the E3 ubiquitin ligase Nedd4-2. The study was published in the prestigious journal Nature Communications.
