Form A1, or Certificate of Jurisdiction under social security legislation

For business trips to EU, EEA, Swiss and UK countries, the employee must be provided with what is known as an A1 Certificate (Certificate relating to social security legislation). This form is issued by the ČSSZ (Czech Social Security Administration) and confirms the country in which the social security and health insurance fees are paid. Some other countries have signed a bilateral agreement with the Czech Republic concerning the social security administration and there exists a Bilateral Certificate equivalent to A1.

An employee of the Faculty of Science who fills in a travel order to a destination with the obligation to issue the above documents will receive an automatic notification and they shall contact the Personnel department:
Ilona Froňková, email: ilona.fronkova@natur.cuni.cz, tel. 221 95 1114

The application is submitted electronically by the employer in cooperation with the employee. The whole process until the A1 Certificate is obtained takes between 3 and 6 weeks depending on the destination. The documents for employment at the Faculty of Science will be enclosed to the application by the HR department, the employee will provide the details of the business trip via email (date, full address of the activity abroad) and also include the information about other employers outside the Faculty or about the registration of the self-employed person (only the name of the institution, or the ID number, the respective documents from the other employment will be requested by ČSSZ).

For EU, EEA, Swiss and UK countries, there is an option to apply for a long-term A1 for a period of 2 years. This will allow staff going on short-term trips (e.g. scientific conferences) or unplanned field trips repeatedly and to carry an A1 Certificate in case of an inspection. For a 2-year application, the employment agreement must be valid for the entire period whereas the details of individual trips are not required. It is best to prepare the application in advance, knowing at least the approximate date of the first trip (to take advantage of the maximum length of validity).

For other countries with a bilateral agreement, it is necessary to apply for a Bilateral Certificate for each individual trip, unfortunately it is not possible to issue a document for several countries or several repeated trips at the same time.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Personnel department: Ilona Froňková, email: ilona.fronkova@natur.cuni.cz, tel. 221 95 1114
