The official matriculation and graduation ceremonies which take place at the Carolinum Building or in the House of the Professed in Lesser Town are among the most venerated social occasions of life at Charles University. As such, these events are held in high esteem by the public.
It follows that with an event of this magnitude, it is considered appropriate for the matriculating and graduating students, attending pedagogues who are present in gowns, as well as all of the other attendees, to follow a formal dress code. For men, wearing a formal suit, a uniform or a folk costume is recommended, along with a white or light blue shirt, a tie or a bow tie and dark-coloured formal shoes. For women, formal dresses, uniforms or folk costumes, along with formal shoes are considered appropriate. Exceptions will only be permitted for medical reasons.
Attending the ceremony in shorts, sandals etc. will not be tolerated. A university representative (rector, vice-rector) has the right to exclude any inappropriately dressed person from the graduation ceremony.
