Granting of scholarships and payment of bursaries is provided, above all, by the Scholarship and Bursary Rules of Charles University (thereinafter “Rules”), The Rules for Awarding Scholarships and Bursaries at the Faculty of Science and relevant Dean’s Measures.
The doctoral study income awarded to the student is a sum of the amount of gross pay or salary, previously agreed upon or set for the work that the student completes as a part of their employment(s) in relation to the work on their dissertation, and the doctoral scholarship awarded by the faculty. The minimal doctoral study income at the Faculty of Science in the current academic year is 25 000 CZK.
The doctoral scholarship is awarded to the students based on a request submitted via the Student Information System (SIS) from the 1st of October 2025 onwards. The request should include information about the amount of gross pay or salary for work related to the student’s dissertation and the length of the period for which the working relationship is established. If any changes in the working relationship related to the work on the dissertation occur during the course of study, the student should immediately inform the faculty.
The payment of the scholarship is cashless and is sent to the student’s bank account denominated in Czech Crowns at a branch of a bank residing on the territory of the Czech Republic. For this purpose, the student is obliged to immediately enter their bank account number in the Student Information System (SIS, Personal data and settings module, Data change section). The student must use only one bank account for payments of all types of bursaries awarded by the faculty. The student bears full responsibility for the accuracy and currentness of the bank account information they provided. The faculty is not liable for any damage due to an incorrect bank account number entry by the student.
Scholarships are paid retroactively. Notifications with decisions on receiving scholarships are sent to students prior to receiving the scholarship via email. A scholarship can only be paid to the student if the decision to award it is final. A decision becomes final after 15 days or by waiving the right to appeal. To enable scholarships to be paid in the nearest pay period, the students must click on the "Waiver of the right to appeal" in SIS (Personal data and setings module, on the tab Document received)
If a student fails to click on "Waiver of the right to appeal", they will receive the scholarship during the next pay period cycle in the following calendar month, when the decision becomes final.
Payment orders are processed from the bank account of the Faculty of Science, Charles University, to the bank accounts of the students on the 16th calendar day of each month at the latest.
If the day of the payment falls on a bank holiday, the bursaries will be paid on the nearest following workday. ‘Payment’ refers to the placement of the bank payment order by the faculty.
Scholarships that have been paid without authorization must be returned by the student to the bank account of the faculty.
Students can access a detailed survey of the amounts and types of scholarships and bursaries paid each month in SIS in the Scholarships module.
Additional types of Scholarships are listed in the Scholarship and Bursary Rules of Charles University (e.g., for outstanding RDI (research, development and innovation), artistic or other creative achievement contributing to greater knowledge; for Research, Development, and Innovation activities in accordance with Act No. 130/2002 Coll.).
Accommodation Bursaries and Bursaries for a Student in a Difficult Social Situation are processed by the Rectorate of Charles University. Detailed information about these types of bursaries can be found on the Charles University website at https://cuni.cz/UK-59.html, where they are continuously updated.
