General procedure

  • The application for subject recognition is submitted at the beginning of the academic year, on the 31st of October at the latest

  • Before submitting an application, please familiarise yourself with the conditions and details in Article 9 and Article 16, paragraphs 5 to 7 of the Rules of Study at the Faculty of Science of Charles University (hereinafter referred to as “Rules”)

  • Subjects can be recognised only if a similar study requirement has been fulfilled at a university or a higher education institution in the Czech Republic or abroad and if no more than six years have elapsed since the study requirement has been fulfilled on the day of submitting the application

  • Hand in the application for subject(s) recognition in person to the study officer at the Department of Student Affairs or send in a scanned copy via the faculty e-mail

  • Attach a record from the Student Information System (SIS) to your application in which you highlight the subjects the fulfilment of which you wish to be recognised

  • Register the subjects you wish to be recognised in SIS during the period in which the system is open for subject registration (only in case of a request to fully recognise subjects fulfilled during the course of previous study with identical codes according to article 16 paragraph 5 does the student not register the subjects in SIS)

  • Subjects related to the completion of the final theses cannot be recognised. A list of these subjects can be found in the attachment to the Dean’s Measure

  • If you are uncertain about which type of subject recognition you may be eligible for, please contact a study officer.

  • In case your application is approved, your record in SIS will be updated accordingly.

  • If the request is denied, you will be issued a written statement of application dismissal.

Recognition of subjects completed within the framework of concurrent study or previous study without awarding ECTS or grades, according to article 9, paragraph 6 of the Rules

  • The student submitting the application will provide an approval of the guarantor of the subject either by having the subject guarantor sign the application form or by forwarding an e-mail communication with the guarantor to the Department of Student Affairs via the faculty e-mail (the guarantor of the subject is always listed in the subject detail module in SIS)

An application for recognition of previously fulfilled study requirements without awarding ECTS (with identical or non-identical subject code in SIS)

Recognition of subjects fulfilled within the course of a bachelor’s programme of study for the purposes of a post-bachelor programme of study with ECTS and classification according to article 9, paragraph 7 of the Rules

  • The subject is neither compulsory nor elective in the completed bachelor’s programme of study and is compulsory or elective in the post-bachelor programme of study,

  • the credits awarded for the subject in the bachelor’s programme of study exceeded the minimal number of credits necessary for the completion of the bachelor’s study programme (i.e., more than 180 credits),

  • the student will provide an approval of the guarantor of the subject, as detailed in the previous section

Recognition of subjects fulfilled during the course of previous study at the Charles University after a successful completion of a unit of study with ECTS and classification according to article 16, paragraph 5 of the Rules

  • The student fulfils the conditions necessary to proceed to the next unit of study during their current unit of study

  • they withdraw from their current study by submitting a written notice of withdrawal from study

  • they sign up for the first year of the new study programme they have been admitted to

  • they will request the following recognition of subjects after the subject registration and a consultation with a study officer

  • only subjects from the first and second year of bachelor’s programmes and the first year of master’s programmes can be recognised in this way

An application for recognition of previously fulfilled study requirements with awarding ECTS (with identical or non-identical subject code in SIS)

The recognition of compulsory or elective subjects from a previous unsuccessfully completed bachelor's or master's degree with ECTS and classification according to article 16, paragraph 6 of the Rules

  • The student fulfilled the conditions for the advancement to the third and subsequent year of study in their previous study

  • the awarded result was “excellent”, “very good” or “credited”

  • the subject was completed in the regular or first remedial term

  • none of the subject requisites are violated

  • they request the recognition of subjects after the subject registration and a consultation with a study officer
