The Ministry of Agriculture (Ministerstvo zemědělství, MZe) is preparing a call for proposals in the programme for the support of applied research of the Ministry of Agriculture “ZEMĚ II” and has published the research needs for projects submitted to the Sub-programme II: Support for public policy in the agricultural sector. The call is planned to open on 16. 4. 2025, planned deadline is 4. 6. 2025.

If you plan to apply in this call, please, contact well in advance before the call deadline the Project Management Department (Romana Hogenová, romana.hogenova@natur.cuni.cz), so that all the formal requirements of the application can be prepared in time.

Sub-programme II focuses on the research needs of the public sector. Projects must address one of the research needs of MZe that are announced for this call. The main applicant must be a research organisation; other research organisations and/or enterprises can participate as partners. Maximum funding rate for research organisations is 100 %. (In last year’s call, the project duration of was 24 to 36 months).

The announced research needs (topics) include (the titles are simplified and roughly translated to English):

  • Bioeconomy
    • Determination of typical values of environmental criteria for agricultural and food products and enterprises
    • Long-term sustainable production of common zander hatchlings
    • Epidemiology of Grapevine flavescence dorée phytoplasma
  • Smart agriculture
    • Update of agricultural production areas in the context of climate change and changing soil characteristics
    • Modern horticultural technological practices
    • Applying smart farming principles to hop drying
    • Testing the tolerance of wheat varieties to Tilletia caries
    • Use of drones for the application of plant protection products
    • Incorporating slow-growing broilers into production farms
    • Protecting grazing livestock against predators using smart technology
    • Assessing clearings, securing coppice and forest cover using low-cost methods, including the use of remote sensing technologies
    • Prevention of the occurrence and development of bacterial diseases in poultry farms
    • Multiplex detection and quantification of plant constituents in foodstuffs by molecular biology methods
    • Establishment of a physicochemical method for the demonstration of milk treatment by methods alternative to pasteurisation
  • Global changes in the biosphere
    • Water erosion in cereal crops
    • Effective control of soil conservation technologies
    • Development of groundwater resources for water supply
    • Ecology of the Dama dama in a period of extreme population boom
    • Using the results of the National Forest Inventory of the Czech Republic to report greenhouse gas emissions
    • Varroasis: Methodology for the control of animal health and mandatory vaccination
