The Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TA CR) has announced the 2nd call for proposals of the programme Theta 2 that supports applied research, development and innovation in the energy sector. Applications will be accepted for Sub-programmes 1, 2 and 3. The deadline is 23. 10. 2024.

If you plan to apply in this call, please, contact well in advance before the call deadline the Project Management Department (Romana Hogenová, romana.hogenova@natur.cuni.cz), so that all the formal requirements of the application can be prepared in time.

The programme supports research and development in the energy sector. Funded projects should focus on improving the management of the energy sector by public authorities, on new technologies and system elements with a high potential for rapid application in practice and on long-term technological perspectives.

Sub-programme 1: Research in the public interest

  • It focuses on topics addressing fundamental and interrelated trends in the energy sector, namely decarbonisation, decentralisation, digitalisation and democratisation. Interdisciplinary technical areas, i.e. the interaction and interconnection of energy with other sectors, are also emphasised.
  • An “application guarantor” must be involved in a proposal (application guarantor is typically a future user of the project results who declares – by a Letter of Intent – an interest in the project results and participates in setting the project plan). The application guarantor must be a central public authority for energy sector or a local authority. This application guarantor cannot be a member of the project consortium.
  • Project duration is 12–48 months.
  • Maximal funding for one project is CZK 15 million.
  • Maximal funding rate is 90 %.

Sub-programme 2: Energy technologies for competitiveness

  • It focuses on preparation of technologies and solutions with rapid application in practice. The supported technologies and technological solutions should contribute to the fulfilment of the climate-energy and environmental objectives of the Czech Republic, especially in the short- and medium-term horizon.
  • At least 1 enterprise must participate in a project and afterwards use its results in practice.
  • A market survey for each planned main project result is a mandatory annex.
  • Project duration is 12–48 months.
  • Maximal funding rate is 60 %.

Sub-programme 3: Technology to ensure the long-term sustainability of the energy industry

  • It focuses on preparing technologies and solutions, which at the time of proposal are at a lower level of technological readiness levels and where the results are not primarily expected to be readily applicable in practice. Projects should be aimed at the preparation of new and non-traditional solutions that would in the medium- to long-term horizon contribute to e.g. meeting climate-energy and environmental objectives of the Czech Republic or ensuring the energy security.
  • Project duration is 36–80 months.
  • Maximal funding rate is 85 %.
