The Czech Ministry of the Environment (Ministerstvo životního prostředí, MŽP), announced a call for applications for support within the Swiss-Czech Cooperation Programme II, “Sustainable Tourism and Enhancing Biodiversity”, the small grants scheme. Deadline is 27. 6. 2025.

If you plan participate in an application, please, contact as soon as possible the Project Management Department (Miroslav Kotrc, miroslav.kotrc@natur.cuni.cz), so that all the formal requirements of the application can be prepared in time.

The call aims to contribute to enhancing biodiversity by reducing pressure on ecosystem functions and services in the landscape, especially in valuable natural sites with the emphasis on:

  • Strengthening biodiversity – reducing landscape and river network fragmentation to enhance connectivity of species populations, favourable condition of ecosystems and their functions, permeability and stability of the landscape.
  • Sustainable tourism – promoting a systematic change in the management of visitor flows with respect to natural assets and ecosystem services in selected sites.

Supported activities include, for example:

  • organisation of educational programmes
  • use of modern forms of interpretation of natural heritage e.g. through mobile phone applications
  • development of conceptual solutions to excessive tourism
  • preparation of analyses of visitor numbers in selected areas
  • measures to support endangered species
  • monitoring and evaluation of the impact of barriers in the landscape on migratory permeability
  • projects increasing the expertise in the field of nature conservation of specific professions
  • transfer of best practices between Czech and Swiss entities
  • cooperation with farmers and motivation for positive changes in farming and landscape care

Project activities can be implemented within the territory of the Czech Republic, except for the territory of the Capital City of Prague. Total project budget can be CZK 500 thousand to CZK 5 million, funding rate is up to 90 %. Involvement of a Swiss partner in project implementation is not compulsory, but is positively evaluated (co-financing of the Swiss partner should be provided by the main applicant). The project must describe its planned sustainability that must be set for a minimum of 3 years.
