Field of Expertise: Reproductive biology

Reserach focus: The group of Reproductive biology focuses on basic and applied science in the field of mammalian reproduction. Within basic research, we investigate molecular mechanisms of fertilization and specific proteins that play a key role during gamete maturation, sperm-egg interaction and early embryo development. Recent projects delivered following breakthrough findings such as a discovery of a new human egg fusion protein named MAIA; a novel approach towards monitoring of sperm quality and bioenergetic potential in patients with testicular cancer; anti-sperm antibodies and their detailed characterization in infertile couples; and male germ line epigenetic dysregulations due to environmental burden of estrogenic compounds. Within applied science, our discoveries are designed to be utilised in human assisted reproduction technologies and livestock breading strategies.

Lecturing: I currently lecture the courses General Biology of Animals (MB170P85), Physiology of Gametes and Fertilization (MB151P118), and the practical course Methodology of Working with Gametes (MB151C03).
