Specialization: fish evolution, molecular adaptation, sensory systems (mainly vision), genomics and transcriptomics (including single-cell level) fish diversity with the main focus on tropical and deep-sea fishes
Research: Fish Evolution research group (head), main focus on the evolution of vision in the deep-sea fishes (funded by ERC Consolidator). Additionally evolution of vision (and sense of smell) in other fish groups, such as tropical cichlids, European cyprinids, or sturgeons. We use the state-of-the-art tools such as single-cell RNA sequencing, enabling us to reveal the identity of single rods and cones in retina. Our overall aim is to reconstruct the evolutionary stories based on different data we collect and analyse.
