The Neuron Foundation is now opening the next round of funding for the Neuron Expedition 2026. Up to 1,000,000 Czech crowns are once again available for scientific field research. This unique call for proposals is open until April 17, 2026, to research teams regardless of their field of study, and the research may be conducted anywhere in the world.

The teams of Prof. Tomáš Obšil from the Department of Physical and Macromolecular Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Charles University and Dr. Veronika Obšilová from the Institute of Physiology of the CAS have elucidated the mechanism by which proteins cyclin Y and 14-3-3 activate the protein kinase CDK16. The study was published in the prestigious journal Nature Communications.

The seal, the scepter, the key, the ring, and the rector’s chain with a gold medallion. These five objects symbolize the rights and responsibilities of the Rector of Charles University. On 11 March, they were entrusted to the new rector, Jiří Zima. During the ceremonial inauguration in the Great Hall of the Karolinum, they were handed over to him by his predecessor, Milena Králíčková.
