Albertov Biocentre Seeks World-Class Scientific Director

The Faculty of Science, Charles University, together with its partners, has launched an international selection procedure for the position of Scientific Director of the newly established Albertov Biocentre. This largest infrastructure project in the modern history of Charles University, worth nearly CZK 5.5 billion, will offer state-of-the-art facilities for natural sciences and biomedical fields. The Biocentre is seeking a global leader to shape the strategic direction of top-tier education and research.

A team of four Czech high school students won a complete set of medals at this year's International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Facing fierce competition from 363 students across 92 countries, the Czech talents secured one gold, two silver, and one bronze medal. Experts from the Chemistry Section at the Faculty of Science, Charles University (CU), played a major role in preparing the successful competitors.

The 37th International Biology Olympiad (IBO 2026) in Vilnius, Lithuania, ended with extraordinary success. Competing against more than 300 of the most talented secondary school students from nearly 80 countries worldwide, the entire four-member Czech delegation won medals—1 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze. The Czech Republic thus maintains an impressive streak: for the twelfth consecutive year, every Czech representative returns home with a medal.The academic background, preparation, national finals, and management of the Czech delegation were traditionally provided by the Faculty of Science, CU.

From July 3-5, 2026, the Faculty of Science had the great pleasure of hosting the European Amphibian Conference 2026, an international meeting bringing together scientists who use amphibians as unique model organisms to understand development, regeneration, evolution, and human diseases.  The leading figure of the entire conference was the Dean of the Faculty, Assoc. Prof. Vladimír Krylov, who also utilizes amphibians as model organisms in his own research work.
