The research group led by Linda Nedbalová at the Department of Ecology, Faculty of Science, Charles University, has prepared the CryoAlgae experiment, which could become part of the scientific program of Czech astronaut Aleš Svoboda aboard the International Space Station (ISS). Congratulations!

The Czech Ministry of Transport has published a list of experiments that Aleš Svoboda might conduct during his stay on the ISS. Among them is CryoAlgae, developed at the Faculty of Science, Charles University.

CryoAlgae focuses on the behavior of microalgae in microgravity, particularly their ability to accumulate heavy metals. The results could be valuable not only for long-duration space missions, where effective water purification is critical, but also for ecological technologies on Earth.

Participation in this program would represent significant recognition of Czech scientific efforts and highlights how fundamental ecological research can find applications even in space research.

Final selection and implementation of the experiments will depend on mission conditions and feasibility aboard the ISS.
