Prof. Kelvin K. Tsai

Dr. Tsai is a physician-scientist focused on advancing treatments for patients with advanced-stage cancer. He earned his M.D. from Taipei Medical College in 1993 and completed his training in internal medicine and gastroenterology. In 2005, he received a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Harvard University. His thesis research involved creating novel organoid models to study stromal-epithelial interactions. Dr. Tsai conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Pennsylvania and UCSF, investigating mechanisms of cancer resistance. He then joined the National Institute of Cancer Research in Taiwan, later becoming a professor and director at Taipei Medical University.

Dr. Tsai has received numerous international awards, including the Harvard Presidential Scholar, Outstanding Research Award from Taiwan’s Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Kobayashi Foundation Award. He has authored over 50 research papers in leading journals and led several clinical trials on GI cancer. His lab, the Laboratory of Advanced Molecular Therapeutics, focuses on identifying mechanisms that drive cancer aggressiveness and treatment resistance. Notably, his research led to the development of first-in-class siRNA therapies targeting oncogenic signaling hubs and novel therapeutic antibodies for treating metastatic cancers. Dr. Tsai is a member of the American Association for Cancer Research, the European Association for Cancer Research, and Sigma Xi.
