Our new paper predicts substantial undocumented peatland areas in Amazonia- https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1748-9326/ad677b

-We estimate a total Amazonian peatland extent of 251,015 km2, greater than the peatlands of the Congo basin. But large uncertainties remain due to field-data gaps.

-Gaps such as these should be a high priority for new field sampling. Our new map can inform future research into the vulnerability of peatlands to climate change and land use change, which is likely to vary spatially across the Amazon basin.
