Detailed information about the study programme

Profile of the graduate

In addition to the scientific and pedagogical pathway at universities, a graduate of the doctoral study program in Demography will also find employment in scientific-research institutions dealing mainly with broad-based social development, ranging from sociological or economic research to medical research or the research of environmental change. S/he can work in practice as an expert in high-level jobs in government (especially Ministries and State Statistical Service), regional and local government, large commercial organizations or agencies focusing on consultancy, opinion polling and marketing. Here everywhere a doctoral graduate can elaborate deeper analyses and forecasts of human population development and its broader contexts. These include, for example, capacity estimates for social infrastructure, especially in the areas of pre-school and school education, health and social services, or technical infrastructure such as housing, public transport and communications, population supply and waste management. Its work is also irreplaceable, for example, in identifying the causes and potential impacts of population climate change and in formulating public policy objectives and measures, as well as in preparing and evaluating medium- and long-term development programs and taking strategic decisions.
