Statement of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts on the flood risk and measures taken

Friday 13.9.2024

Dean of the Faculty of Science prof. Jiří Zima, CSc. on Friday, 13 September 2024, commented on the potential flood risk and the measures taken.

Dear and beloved,

We have a rather wet weekend ahead of us, which may cause concern for many of our colleagues, including students. Therefore, I would like to inform everyone that the situation is being monitored at the Rector's Office, from where we are receiving updates from both the Rector and the Crisis Staff, and we at the faculty are also monitoring everything closely. Considering the location of the buildings we manage, perhaps only the shipyard in Podolí could be threatened by high water. Here the Vice Dean of the Geography Section has already acted and the CTV is ready for a possible action. Fortunately, the forecast for Berounka is not so tragic and the Vltava cascade is forgiven. As far as the state IZS is concerned, all information is in the style that everything is ready in Prague and elsewhere to cope with the expected high water and at least the 2nd level of flood activity, i.e. everything is ready in a state of emergency.

For my part, I firmly believe that there will be no damage to the property of the faculty or our university, and all of us members of the Crisis Staff of the Faculty of Science will monitor the situation and inform each other immediately if necessary.
I wish everyone a really wet but hopefully relatively calm weekend.

Jiří Zima
