Catalytic Properties of Different Types of Active Sites in Zirconosilicate Zeolites Distinguished for the First Time

Jan Přech, together with postdoctoral researcher Kinga Gołabek and his students from the Heterogeneous Catalysis and Advanced Materials Group (KFMCh), has published an article in the prestigious journal ACS Catalysis. The work presents the very first observation of a correlation between the distribution of different types of active sites in zirconosilicate zeolites and the selectivity of the competing chemical reactions they catalyze.

A team of researchers coordinated by Eunice Romero, a researcher at the Faculty of Science, Charles University, published a study in the journal Frontiers in Plant Science. In this work they developed and clearly documented practical maceration protocols that can be widely used in research and teaching. Alongside Eunice Romero, the research involved Mark Olson and Alí Segovia-Rivas (UNAM, Mexico  –  Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México), Jarmila Pittermann (UC Santa Cruz, USA), and Radek Jupa (Masaryk University).

Biodiversity in Flux: Are the Tropics Safe Museums or Facing an Imminent Crisis?

A research team led by David Storch from the Department of Ecology and the Center for Theoretical Study has introduced a new perspective on the drivers of global species richness. In the journal Trends in Ecology & Evolution (IF=17,3), they present the “Equilibrium Theory of Biodiversity Dynamics” (ETBD). This framework explains how historical climate changes have created the current global distribution of life, where the tropics function as "museums" and temperate zones act as evolutionary "cradles". The illustration for the article, featured on the cover of the current issue, was created by Prof. Tomáš Albrecht from the Department of Zoology.

On the occasion of the traditional appointment of the Faculty of Science’s partner schools at Charles University - an event held once every five years - a meeting of the directors of partner schools took place on Friday, 16 January 2026, in the Mineralogical Lecture Hall at Albertov 6. The directors were welcomed by Dean Vladimír Krylov, Vice-Dean for Study Concept Milada Teplá, and Jakub Jelen, guarantor of pedagogical practice.
