Interesting scientific topics, excellent study or sporting results, as well as community activities and helping others, were all recognised by the Rector of Charles University Milena Králíčková, who presented prestigious awards to students from Charles University for their extraordinary activities. Vojtěch Hladký works at the Department of Philosophy and History of Science, where his research focuses primarily on ancient Greek and Renaissance philosophy. He teaches several courses in philosophy and history of science for biology students, including the course Ethics and Science. In recent years, however, the preparation of this course has been significantly contributed to by Jana Švorcová and Lenka Ovčáčková, who has also recently taken over as the main teacher.

The Endowment Fund of the Faculty of Science, Charles University, whose statute includes support for pedagogical, scientific, and research activities carried out at the faculty, is announcing a call for applications for the "Financial Contribution for a Student’s Trip Abroad for Experience." The deadline for submitting applications is April 17, 2025, and the decision on the award will be announced by April 24, 2025.

Dr. Miroslav Šobr specializes in hydrology, limnology, and natural hazards. He is a beloved educator and participates in teaching both bachelor's and master's courses, including the challenging Planetary Geography, which he has supervised since 2018. He is actively involved in teaching hydrology and regional geography of Asia, drawing on his field experience from Lake Baikal and Central Asia. He enjoys leading field exercises and practical tasks within the Geography Olympiad, which he has helped organize since 2013. His teaching emphasizes discussion, practical examples, and a fair approach to students.

Homosexuality presents an intriguing paradox for evolutionary biology. If homosexual individuals, on average, have fewer offspring than heterosexual people, and sexual orientation is at least partly genetically determined, how can genetic predispositions for homosexuality persist in the human population? A recent study by Jakub Fořt and his colleagues from the Human Ethology group at the Faculty of Science, Charles University, aimed to answer this question.
