47b Act No. 111/1998 Coll. On Higher Education requires higher education institutions to publish qualification theses that have been defended, including examiners’ reports and records of the course and results of the defences on their websites.
Bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and rigorosum theses submitted by the applicant for defence must be made available to the public five working days before the date of the defence at the latest. At Charles University, this is specified in the Rector's Directive No. 72/2017 - Making the Electronic Database of Final Theses Accessible.
The theses are accessible in SIS five days before the date of the defence, as well as on the day of the defence itself:
- a) in an anonymous mode (i.e. without logging in)
- In the Thesis (Selection of subject) module
- Upon setting up a filter for a specific faculty, department, or institute
- After checking the “Theses prepared for defence” box;
- b) after logging in
- In the Student theses module when using the faculty role
- Upon setting up a filter using the “Mine as a defence committee ěmember” function
- According to the given institute (department) upon checking the “submitted electronically” box
In case the thesis solution or the attachment contains an approved Request for the delay of the publication, the detail of the thesis includes the information that the files are not yet available for this very reason.
All files concerning the theses to be defended (including the examiners’ reports) can only be accessed in SIS by the members of the examination committee.
After the defence is concluded, the fulfilment of all the requirements is checked, and the record of the thesis is finalised by the Student Affairs Division, the theses are published in the Digital Repository of Charles University. The one exception is the theses whose authors have been granted the request for the delay of publication due to the need for copyright protection, patent protection, or a different type of intellectual property protection.
More information about the Repository is available here.
