History of the ICP instruments at the Charles University

1998

The first ICP-MS lab at Charles University started with funding of the PHARE project CZ 9503-01, lot 23. While PHARE has provided funds for the ICP mass spectrometer - VG Elemental PQ3 (Winsford, UK), VG laser microprobe and several accessories for the instrument, the Faculty of Science at Charles University has helped with building a suitable laboratory space. Over the years, as the lab expanded, we have received a continuous university support as well as funding from the Charles University Grant Agency and Ministry of Education.

2008

A brand new ICP MS equipment - Thermo Scientific X Series II (Bremen, Germany) was purchased thanks to funding from Charles University, Faculty of Science. At the same time the laboratory was equipped with a new Thermo Scientific inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP OES, iCAP 6500 radial) using the funds of Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic (project No. 810/2008). A Laboratory of Plasma Spectrometry (LAPS) is established at the end of 2008 placing these two instruments in one lab.

The LAPS provides training and teaching for under- and postgraduate students, analytical service for MSc. and PhD. student projects, university research and variety of external cooperators.
