Dr. Matouš Vobořil from the Department of Cell Biology at the Faculty of Science, Charles University has been awarded a prestigious Junior Star grant from the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic. Thanks to the new grant, the young scientist can set up his own laboratory and research team at the faculty.

Dr. Jan Dobeš from the Department of Cell Biology at the Faculty of Science, Charles University, has received the prestigious Česká hlava award. He was awarded by the INVENTION prize for his outstanding achievement in the field of basic or applied research in the 23rd year of the competition.

Vědci dosáhli významného pokroku v pochopení toho, jak buňky regulují svou vnitřní strukturu. Tým ze tří ústavů Akademie věd České republiky, Ústavu molekulární genetiky, Biotechnologického ústavu a Ústavu organické chemie a biochemie, z Přírodovědecké fakulty Univerzity Karlovy, BIOCEV a CEITEC odhalil molekulární mechanismy proteinu MICAL1, který je klíčový pro udržování tvaru a pohybu buněk. Zjištění výzkumníků přinášejí detailní pohled na fungování MICAL1 při regulaci aktinových filamentů — pružného „skeletu“ buňky — a otevírají nové možnosti pro léčbu nemocí spojených s poruchou této regulace. Studii publikoval prestižní časopis Nature Communications.
