The initiative Driving Urban Transitions (DUT) prepares a call for proposals of international research projects addressing urban challenges to help cities in their transition towards a more sustainable economy and functioning. Call is planned to open on 1. 9. 2025, deadline for pre-proposals is planned on 17. 11. 2025.
Participation of Czech entities should be funded by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TA CR).
► On 9. 9. 2025, DUT organise a webinar for applicants. Event webpage and registration.
If you plan to participate in a proposal, please, contact well in advance, 1 month before the deadline at the latest, the Project Management Department (Martina Holíková, martina.holikova@natur.cuni.cz), so that all the formal requirements of the application can be prepared in time.
If you consider coordinating a project, please contact us AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, ca. 2–3 months before the deadline at the very latest.

Proposals must focus on at least one of the following “Transition Pathways” that are further divided into topics. ATTENTION, applicants from Czechia will be able to participate only in proposals on some selected topics, this will be specified on the TA CR webpage for this call (in the previous call, only 1 topic in 15-Minute City and 2 topics in Positive Energy Districts were open for Czech applicants).
- 15-minute City (15mC)
- Circular Urban Economies (CUE)
- Positive Energy Districts (PED)
The project consortium must consist of at least 3 partners from 3 different countries participating in the call, out of that at least 2 must be EU member states or Horizon Europe associated countries – usual consortia consist of partners from 3–5 countries. Consortia must include at least 1 urban government authority. 1 Principal Investigator (person) cannot participate in more than 2 proposals.
Each partner must fulfil the eligibility criteria of their national funder.
Countries planning participation in the call: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czechia (though not listed on DUT website yet), Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, The Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia.
Funding of participation of Czech entities is linked to the TA CR programme Sigma (Sub-objective 4), only applied research will probably be supported. Total financial allocation for Czech participation in this call is EUR 700 000. Maximal funding rate for Czech participants will probably be 80 % (for the Czech part of the project in total).
Project proposals will be submitted online by the coordinator. Czech participants will probably have to simultaneously submit to TA CR a “project proposal” via SISTA (it will probably contain administrative and budget information) by the pre-proposal deadline, in order for TA CR to check the national eligibility of the proposal.
