Research interests:

During his professional career (since 1972) he worked in several workplaces in different countries. His professional focus has diversified and covered or still covers several directions ranging from auxology, anthropology of sport, through clinical anthropology, to designing methods for estimation of indicators in paleodemography and forensic anthropology.

Since 1986 his scientific and pedagogical activity has been related to activities in France. After obtaining a second PhD. in paleoanthropology in 1991 at the Institute of Human Paleontology (IPH) in Paris, he joined as a researcher at the National Center for Science and Research (CNRS) at the University of Bordeaux, where he habilitated in 1995 and ended his career in 2014 as an independent researcher (Directeur de recherche 1re classe - DR1), which is equivalent to a university professor title.

Since 2008 he has been working in parallel at the Department of Anthropology and Human Genetics, Faculty of Science, Charles University, initially as an associate professor, then as a professor. He is a member of the team of the Laboratory of 3D Imaging and Analytical Methods led by Assoc. Prof. J. Velemínská. Prof. Brůžek is also a member of the Field Council for Human Anthropology and Genetics, as well as of the Library Committee of the Faculty's Biology Section (since 2016).

The strength of his professional focus is the accentuation of the methodological approach in biological anthropology. His research activity best describes the interaction of knowledge between the current variability of man and its discovery in populations of the past. In particular, he deals with the estimation of paleodemographic indicators such as age and sex based on the skeleton. He also deals with the research on the sexual dimorphism of the skeleton. His priorities also include research on the ontogenetic and phylogenetic aspects of the human pelvis and reproduction.

He cooperates with experts from other fields in the use of data mining techniques in anthropology. I am involved in research tasks in the field of the paleobiology of populations of the past from the Upper Paleolithic through the Neolithic to the Middle Ages.
